5 Use Cases for Applying Ontologies in your IT

Posted by Pete Rivett on May 18, 2016 5:14:08 PM

Use Case #1. The Business Glossary BI Reports without thoroughly understood ‘metric definitions’ and ‘metric calculations’ to support them, stored in a ‘Business Metrics Glossary’, run the risk of being systematically sub-optimized. Building Business Glossaries can be expensive and time consuming (but well worth it). Leveraging the power of industry specific domain ontologies (freely available and free to use) will considerably cut down the time you have to spend on both modelling the problem and arguing about meaning. Posted by Daragh O’Brien on Apr 13, 2016 12:38:00 PM

“Metadata” is a much abused term that entered the mainstream vocabulary in recent years through
the revelations about mass surveillance by agencies such as GCHQ and the NSA. Unfortunately,
much of the data that was labelled ‘metadata’ in media commentary on surveillance isn’t – it’s actual data recording the fact of a phone call or an email.
