If you are tasked with collating, aligning and integrating all of the data assets held within your organization across numerous departments, resources, technologies and use cases, the last thing you need is to add to the challenge by having to use an outdated or ineffective means of managing that data to meet compliance standards and drive business insights. That would just mean creating more work on top of what you already have to do.

Metadata management can be a complicated issue that only grows as big data and the internet of things continue to create more data than we have ever been faced with before, but the solution to that issue doesn’t need to be complicated.

That’s why we at Adaptive have worked hard to deliver the most user-friendly interactive version of our Metadata Manager (MDM) product, enabling our current and future clients to easily and efficiently manage all of the data assets within their organization and banish all memory of those over-complicated and two-dimensional spreadsheets.

Our 20 years of experience as a leader in the metadata management sector, as named by Gartner in their Magic Quadrant Report, has seen us continuously placed at the forefront of data governance, but we constantly strive to improve the solutions we provide to our clients and have taken on board the feedback from customers and Gartner’s report to deliver our best product yet.

The work of our innovative and highly knowledgeable tech and development teams has led to the creation of MDM Version 8.0, the most comprehensive update to our suite of metadata management products yet.

This updated product enables organizations to more easily and effectively manage their metadata and create a comprehensive overview of the data assets their organization has, enabling them to drive business insights in the knowledge that the data they hold is both accurate and up to date.

What are the new features in Version 8.0?

There are several performance improvements featured in Version 8.0, including better caching and more explicit Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) that will enable greater interaction with representations of the resource over an organization’s network, using specific, standards-driven protocols already existing in earlier versions of Metadata Manager.

New platform elements include a new Semantic Access Module that automatically extracts repository information to an ontology-based store for high-performance semantic query and analysis.

The new Enterprise Search Application also allows business users to query and browse glossaries, ontologies and the data catalog, making use of a new responsive design that runs on a range of mobile and desktop devices.

Focusing on an improved user experience and interface, Version 8.0 makes accessing and understanding all of the data assets within your organization even easier.

Incorporating Google material design guidelines to provide a rich text editor for easy inclusion of images, links and other editing capabilities.

Improved graphics capabilities also offer more variety, while the data-driven graphics enable dynamic and interactive data visualizations that can be captured and printed with ease. The new graphics capabilities allow users to not only visualize the data effectively but also provide further interactive features like searching, highlighting routes, collapsing and expanding branches and overlaying different properties of objects on the diagrams.

A context-sensitive help function within the user interface now empowers data officers to help themselves by providing instant online assistance regarding certain topics or problems, reducing the need to search for documents, and explaining not only why specific best practices are done, but how to do them.

This will allow for greatly increased productivity, with information officers and all stakeholders able to spend less time figuring out how to process the data they hold, and more time to understand its context and how it changes over time within the organization.

New to 8.0, any end user can now easily create a personalized dashboard styled homepage, while administrators can also create homepages for all users of an application, or a homepage for all users sharing the same role, using the same simple widget.

This feature will allow greater accountability and accessibility across an organization to greatly enhance the alignment and integration of metadata for effective data governance, enabling users to find the gaps in their information supply chain, and understand who has access to the data, what they have done with it, and why, so that they can organize their work efficiently by presenting clear, actionable tasks and up-to-date information as soon as they log in to the Adaptive platform.

These additions to Adaptive’s Metadata Manager product mean current and future clients can even more efficiently and effectively manage their metadata to meet regulatory compliance and gain growth-driven business insights, and represent another leap forward for this leading provider of data governance solutions.

As our Head of Professional Services at Adaptive, Unmesh Moghe, says of Version 8.0: "With this release Adaptive has not only modernized and improved the usability of the product for the customers but also managed to provide rich functionality to enable more effective enterprise metadata management solutions."
